Updating Tempest
How Tempest keeps itself up to date — automatic background checks, manual Check for Updates, and how the signed update installs.
Tempest has a built-in updater that keeps you on the latest signed release, with both automatic checks and an on-demand check from the Help menu.
Automatic checks
While you are connected to the internet, Tempest checks for a newer version in the background from time to time (about once a day). If a new version is available, it lets you know — you choose when to install. There is nothing to configure to receive updates.
Check for updates manually
You can check at any time:
- Open the Help menu in the top menu bar.
- Choose Check for Updates….
- If you are already current, Tempest tells you so. If a newer version exists, the update dialog opens.

Installing an update
When an update is available, Tempest shows a dialog with the new version number and its release notes (what changed). To update:
- Review the release notes.
- Choose to install. Tempest downloads the update, verifies it, and then restarts into the new version.

Note: Updates are cryptographically signed, so Tempest installs only genuine Forte Mare releases — a downloaded file that does not pass verification is rejected and not installed. You do not need to download anything from a website by hand; the in-app updater handles it.
Tips
- Stay current. Updates include fixes and improvements; running the latest release is the best way to avoid known issues.
- Trader Workstation can stay open. Tempest restarts itself to finish an update; reconnect to your broker afterward as usual (see Connecting to Interactive Brokers).
- Update check seems slow or times out? On some networks Windows' proxy auto-detection delays outbound requests. See the fix in Troubleshooting.
Reinstalling
If you ever need to reinstall, download the latest installer from the Forte Mare website (fortemare.net) and run it over your existing installation — your settings, license, and saved desktops are preserved. See Installation & First Launch.
