AI Price Action Commentary

Price Action Commentary lets you send the current chart to Claude (Anthropic's AI) and read educational observations about the market context, recent bars, and any signals shown — streamed back into a panel inside Tempest.

Opening Commentary

There are three ways to bring up the Price Action Commentary panel:

• Tools → Price Action Commentary (Premium)… in the top menu
• The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+C
• Right-click on a chart and choose Get AI Commentary…

The first two open the panel and focus it so you can press Get Commentary yourself. Right-clicking the chart opens the panel and requests commentary immediately, using that chart as the screenshot source.

The response streams in token-by-token as Claude writes it, so text appears progressively rather than all at once.

What Gets Sent

When you press Get Commentary, Tempest captures the current market context once and sends it to Claude. There is no continuous background monitoring — data is only sent when you request it.

What the Commentary Covers

Claude is instructed to describe the chart in educational price-action terms only. Typical commentary touches on:

• Overall context — whether price is trending, ranging, or transitional
• Recent bars — body and tail size, close location, and buying/selling pressure
• Patterns — such as double tops/bottoms, flags, wedges, breakouts, reversal bars, and inside/outside bars
• Moving-average relationship — how price is behaving around its moving average
• Signal context — if signals are shown on the chart, observations about the signal bar and the surrounding price action, and the entry/stop/target structure

Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

By default, commentary works out of the box using a bundled Forte Mare service — no key, no setup, and Anthropic does not bill you directly.

You can instead supply your own Anthropic API key. When a key is set, Tempest contacts Anthropic directly with it, and your Anthropic account is billed for each request rather than going through the bundled service.

Setting your key

Open the key dialog one of two ways:

• The 🔑 AI Key… button in the commentary panel, or
• Tools → AI Anthropic Key for Price Action Commentary…

In the dialog:

1. Get a key — use the link to console.anthropic.com/settings/keys to create a key in your own Anthropic account.
2. Paste it — the field is masked as you type; the placeholder shows the expected sk-ant-api03-… format. Leaving it blank keeps your current setting.
3. Save — Tempest stores your key and uses it for future commentary requests.

The dialog's Status line tells you which mode you are in — using your own key or using bundled service — but it never displays the stored key itself.

Clearing your key

To switch back to the bundled service, open the same dialog and press Clear. Your stored key is removed and future requests use the bundled service again.

How your key is stored

Your key is stored encrypted on your computer, tied to your Windows user account. It is not sent to Forte Mare — when a key is set, commentary requests go directly to Anthropic. If the encrypted key were copied to a different machine or Windows account, it could not be read there, so you would re-enter it in the new environment.

Knowledge Base (optional)

You can supplement commentary with your own reference material — for example, notes on patterns you want Claude to consider. Tempest reads a commentary_kb folder located next to the application:

• Text files are added to the instructions sent with each request.
• Image files (PNG, JPEG) are sent as reference slides alongside the chart screenshot.

Anything you place in that folder is included automatically on each commentary request. If the folder is empty, commentary simply uses the chart, bars, price, and signals.

Status Messages

The status line at the bottom of the panel reports progress:

• Capturing market context… / Generating commentary… — the request is being prepared and sent. Press Stop to cancel.
• Cancelled. — you stopped the request mid-stream.
• Commentary generated at HH:MM:SS — the response finished.
• Error: … — something went wrong (for example a network problem or, if you supplied your own key, a key/billing issue). The same message is also appended to the response area.

If you use your own key and see an error, confirm in your Anthropic account that the key is still valid and that billing is enabled. With the bundled service, check your internet connection — see Troubleshooting.
