Customizing Charts
Open charts, change candle colors and chart themes, add indicator plugins, and save your chart setup as part of a desktop.
Tempest's charts can be opened as tabs, recolored to your taste, extended with indicator plugins, and saved as part of a desktop layout.
Note: Charts and their overlays are informational only β they are not recommendations or guarantees of any outcome. See Charts & the Signal Preview for how to read a chart and the signal preview.
Opening a chart
From the Chart menu in the top menu bar:
| Action | Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| New Chart Tab | Ctrl+Shift+M | Opens a chart. It is added as a new tab inside the existing Charts dock if one is open; otherwise it creates the Charts dock first. |
| Open Charts for All Today's Signals | Ctrl+Shift+A | Opens one chart per unique symbol that has signals today. Each chart auto-overlays its signals and shows the symbol as a background watermark. |
Charts live in a dockable Charts area, so you can tab them together, drag them side by side, or float them β see Desktops & Layout.

The chart right-click menu
Right-click anywhere on a chart for its context menu. The most useful items:
- Customize Chart Colors β recolor the chart (see below).
- Get Price Action Commentary β request AI commentary for that chart. See AI Price Action Commentary.
- Resubmit Brackets β re-place the protective bracket on a naked position for that symbol. This is a trading action β review it carefully first. See Brackets & Scale-In.
Customizing chart colors
Right-click a chart and choose Customize Chart Colors. You can pick one of the built-in candle themes, or edit the Custom palette field by field. Changes apply live to every open chart β no restart needed β and the chart switches to your Custom palette as you edit.
The Custom palette has these fields:
| Field | What it colors |
|---|---|
| Chart background | The chart's background area. |
| Grid + axis lines | The gridlines and the price/time axes. |
| Axis text | The labels on the price and time axes. |
| Up candle body | The body of a candle that closed higher than it opened. |
| Down candle body | The body of a candle that closed lower than it opened. |
| Up wick | The high/low wick of an up candle. |
| Down wick | The high/low wick of a down candle. |
You can save your palette as the default for new charts, or reset everything back to the built-in defaults from the same dialog.

Tip: The chart's colors are separate from the app's overall theme. To change the app theme (the window chrome and panels), use View β Theme. Chart colors are set per the dialog above.
Bar numbers
Charts number their bars from the regular-session open so you can line a signal up with its exact bar. For how bar numbering works (bar 1 = the session open; earlier bars are marked "previous day"), see Charts & the Signal Preview.
Indicators (plugins)
Tempest supports drop-in indicator plugins. Open Tools β Indicator Pluginsβ¦ to see the manager dialog listing the indicator plugins currently loaded. Plugins are added by placing their files in Tempest's plugins folder; they are detected when Tempest starts and become available to your charts.

Saving your chart setup
Your open charts and the overall window arrangement are saved as part of a desktop. Set up your charts the way you like, then save the arrangement (and reload it later, or make it your default) from File β Save as Desktopβ¦ / File β Load Desktop. See Desktops & Layout for the full workflow.
